Reconstruction of a woman's dress based on finds of cloth fragments excavated at Lonne Hede near Varde (see the original cloth in the smaller showcase). The costume, which consists of a sleeveless blouse and skirt, has been dyed with woad and madder. The orange-red borders of the dress were not originally dyed with madder, but the plant or animal used to produce this orange dye has not yet been determined. Most dyestuffs were in the Iron Age extracted from plants, but one group of red dyes comes from insects. In the Late Roman Iron Age, strong colors like red, blue, yellow and green or black were used for high-quality textiles.
