Oak coffin found in the grave mound Borum Eshøj at Århus, Jutland. The deceased was a man of about 20 years of age. He was slightly built, and nearly 166cm tall. His longish hair was very well preserved. On burial the young man had a garment wrapped around his loins that was held together by a leather belt. He was laid on top of a cowhide and had a woolen blanket laid over him. By his left arm was placed a small bronze dagger. The leather strap on which the sheath of his dagger was carried was laid across his chest. Before the lid was put on the coffin, a small carved box was placed at the head-end. Measurements of growth rings of the wood of the coffin show that the burial took place around the year 1345BC.
