Large Swedish axe

Original

Found: Gullberg, Sweden
Age: app. 1800-1600BC

Model

The model to make the mouls is made from clay and sand.

Mould

The mould is made from clay and sand. The mould consists of two halves and a core. The entire mould is packed in a mix of clay, sand and dung and after drying the mould was fired.

Casting result

Here you can see the cast axe as it came out of the mould. The axe was cast in Ireland, during the Umha Aios symposium.

Finishing

The cast result was somewhat poor. The surface was quite rough and the axe has quite a bit of porosity. Therefore I'm finishing it with modern tools. Here you can see the axe after partly finishing.
